Hi! Brandy here. Creator and owner of Baked By BAM, located in West Islip, NY.
By career I am a Forensic Firearms Examiner. By hobby I am a home baker and sun chaser. I truly enjoy baking from scratch, sharing my work with others, and seeing how sweet treats can make everybody's day a little bit better. When I'm not in the lab or my kitchen, you'll find me somewhere in the sun.
Growing up I spent a lot of time with Grandma, Mom, and my Tia’s in the kitchen cooking and baking. I remember watching my grandmother create different cakes for my birthday. My Tia's were always making various cookies and delicious pies. And as for Mom, she's still always trying new recipes to satisfy my Dad's sweet tooth.
I made my first decorated cake for my son’s first birthday in 2000. I picked up a Wilton Cake Decorating book in Ames, saw a picture of a two-tier Sesame Street cake I liked and thought to myself “How hard can it be?” Well, it turned out cake decorating was certainly harder than I anticipated, but in the end my first cake was a success! I continued making themed cakes for my son’s birthday over the years until he decided he was too old for them at the age of 10. Cake decorating slowed down and I found myself spending more time making cookies, cupcakes, and pies.
Christmas 2019 I decided to try something new, so I made decorated sugar cookies and took them to my first Christmas Eve gathering with my husband’s family. About 6 months later my now Sister-in-law requested those cookies for a retirement party, and for every event she has planned since then. The more I made them, the more compliments I received. I had no idea how liked and sought after my decorated sugar cookies were becoming.
With the growing number of requests for my sugar cookies, it was time to turn my hobby into something more, and Baked by BAM was started in July 2024.
I am an approved, and insured, NY State Home Processor. Everything I bake is prepared with quality ingredients and made in my home kitchen. What I have received the most praise for is my decorated sugar cookies as they stand apart from all the rest. Unlike many cookie decorators, I do not use Royal Icing for my cookies. Rather I use a confectioner's glaze, which has its limits and takes longer to set, but undeniably taste better! Additionally, I offer several flavors of drop cookies, brownies, bars, cakes, and cupcakes.
